St. Thomas Synagogue (Beracha Veshalom Vegmiluth Hasidim)

Built in 1833, this is the second-oldest synagogue in the Western Hemisphere and the oldest in continuous use under the American flag. Activities: Guided tours are available in-season (October–July) led by volunteer docents. Visit the adjacent Weibel Museum to see artifacts of 200+ years of Jewish life. Highlights: Famous for its unique sand floors, which symbolize the Israelites' journey through the desert and secret worship during the Inquisition. The interior features beautiful mahogany pews and historic chandeliers. Note: Visitors must present a photo ID to enter. The gift shop carries unique Judaica. Services are open to all.
