Friis Bay

Friis Bay is one of St. John's hidden gems largely because private property lines most of the shore, which keeps land access limited mostly to guests, homeowners, and people arriving by water. That makes it a spot favored by snorkelers, kayakers, and paddleboarders rather than a beach-towel crowd: the round, bowl-shaped bay mixes sand and sea grass beds, with the best underwater structure along the southern side and a rift where shallow water breaks toward deeper water, drawing juvenile fish, crabs, lobster, and conch close to shore. Friis Bay sits south of Coral Bay on the way toward Salt Pond Bay and the Lameshur Bay Trail, and its most useful nearby landmark for planning a day around it is Miss Lucy's Restaurant, a short distance away and known locally for its Sunday brunch. Because the bay is genuinely private property on most sides, respecting the residential setting matters here more than at St. John's park beaches — this is a stop for people already on the water rather than a drive-up beach day.
