Abi Beach

Abi's current, quieter reputation is really the second act of a beach-bar story. The original Abi Beach Bar opened in January 2014 on a stretch of white sand on St. Thomas's south shore, at Green Cay between Bolongo Bay and Morningstar — the island's first boat-only beach bar, by the operator's own account, with a full bar, food service, a volleyball court, and lounge chairs under shade trees. That bar has since closed; recent visitor guides describe finding only its shipping-container remnants near the parking area, alongside swings still hidden in the trees for those who look. What hasn't changed is how you get there: charter boats remain the easiest way in, and the land alternative is a rough, pothole-heavy dirt road that reviewers consistently say needs a 4WD vehicle or SUV. That friction is exactly why it stays quiet — trip reports describe having the beach mostly to themselves outside of charter-boat hours, with calm, swimmable water, decent shell-hunting, and a scattering of sea urchins on the rocks that regulars say are easy to avoid if you watch your step. Bring your own food and water; there's no bar to fall back on anymore.
