Haulover Bay (South)

Haulover Bay South sits directly across East End Road from its better-known northern counterpart, and most repeat visitors treat the two as a pair worth comparing rather than picking just one. South is generally described as the calmer of the two, with a protected cove, some tree shade, and a mix of sand and pebble that makes for slightly easier footing than North's all-rock shoreline; several forum regulars specifically recommend South when the swell is up, since it holds up better in rough conditions. Snorkeling here runs fair to good along both the eastern and western edges of the bay, with deeper water bringing in larger fish than the shallower patch reefs elsewhere on the island, though there are also a good number of sea urchins reported along the rocks, and entry at both Haulover beaches is rocky enough that water shoes are a near-universal recommendation. A posted warning worth taking seriously: manchineel trees, which are toxic to the touch, line parts of the road and trail here, and visitors are advised to keep clear of them entirely. As at Haulover North, there are no facilities of any kind.
