Hull Bay Beach

Hull Bay is the beach St. Thomas keeps mostly to itself. It's the island's best-known surf spot — a modest but consistent four-to-six-foot swell rolls in from November through March, and the wave breaks on the bay's left side while everyone else on the sand watches. Locals describe a real, decades-deep surf culture here rather than a tourist rental operation: board rentals are scarce, so serious surfers bring their own, and trip reports mention a laid-back, welcoming vibe toward visitors who paddle out respectfully. Away from the surf, the bay draws fishermen and families rather than cruise crowds, in part because the access road is narrow and pothole-heavy enough that several reviewers call it genuinely hard to find. Snorkeling is decent on the right side of the bay, with green turtles, moray eels, and — a detail repeat visitors mention — bioluminescence in the water after dark. The Hull Bay Hideaway beach bar anchors the local social scene, with fish tacos on Mondays and live music some nights; beyond that, don't expect much in the way of amenities.
