St. Thomas and St. Croix have commercial airports. St. John has no airport, so most air arrivals connect through St. Thomas and continue by water to Cruz Bay.

Geographic scale also changes the plan: Census land-area records put St. Croix at about 83.4 square miles, St. Thomas at about 31.3, and St. John at about 19.7. Scale does not determine fit by itself, but it makes base and transportation choices consequential.

Virgin Islands National Park covers roughly two-thirds of St. John. On St. Croix, Christiansted history and vessel-only Buck Island access create different planning anchors.
