Planning a USVI boat charter

Choose the departure, water day, and return plan before comparing boats

Boat charters in the USVI are route decisions as much as provider decisions. Red Hook is a practical St. Thomas departure for St. John and nearby cays. Cruz Bay and Coral Bay change the shape of a St. John day, while St. Croix charters usually stay within a different island-scale plan. The same advertised “half day” can feel very different depending on departure, stops, and return distance.

Compare charters by the experience you want to combine: snorkeling, beach time, lunch, sunset, fishing, or island-hopping. Look for the departure point, passenger fit, route capability, boat type, and what the operator actually describes. A nearby destination is not automatically a service a provider offers.

Before you decide

  • Start with departure and return before choosing the farthest destination.
  • Ask what is included in the route, timing, fuel, gear, food, and weather plan.
  • Leave enough buffer for boarding, sea conditions, and the trip back to the dock.
